The earth is what we all have in common

WENDELL BERRY

Environmental, social and economic sustainability is a topic that affects companies all over the world more and more closely.

We have entered the era of the Anthropocene and our ecosystem is increasingly threatened by continuous human activities and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

The United Nations, with the Sustainable Development Goals to 2030 and the European Union with the mission of becoming the first Net Zero continent in the world by 2050, and a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030, invite all the actors involved, companies included, to do their part.

It is estimated that for the EU to achieve climate neutrality, emissions from the transport sector will have to decrease by 90% by 2050.

The market and technologies are constantly changing, but immediately every company must begin a process of mapping, monitoring, reducing and offsetting its emissions. Awareness of how much we pollute is the first step that will lead us to act in an aware and responsible way.

A company's emissions are divided into:

  • SCOPE 1 - DIRECT EMISSIONS - Generated as a result of its own internal procedural activities and from sources within the organizational boundaries
  • SCOPE 2- INDIRECT INTERNAL - Arising from the supply of energy resources
  • SCOPE 3 - INDIRECT EXTERNAL - the most difficult to control, derived as a result of processes resulting from INDIRECT operations in the supply chain. These are usually the largest share in the emissions inventory and include business travel, waste management, home-work commuting, freight transport and more.

With the aim of helping our customers to quantify and monitor their SCOPE 3 related to the shipments of their products in the world, PROJECT HEARTH is born, a partnership between VECTOR, GREEN ROUTER and CARBONSINK.

We want to GENERATE VALUE for our customers, which is why the CO2 mapping and calculation service is offered by us on request once the shipment is complete.
The best thing we suggest to our customers is a single year-end mapping of the previous year's shipments.

We offer ourselves as consultants to study together our customers' Scope 3 decarbonisation paths, relating to their international transport, finding the right compromise between economic, operational and environmental needs.

Where reduction becomes difficult, again through us, it is possible to offset the tons of Co2 emitted with the purchase of certified carbon credits that support initiatives aimed at sustainability and decarbonisation.

Acting in an ESG perspective improves the competitiveness of your business, the positioning in the market and makes an important contribution to the well-being of the entire planet.

A concrete example - which is better understood with numbers.

Shipping 10,000 kg from Milan to New York generates approximately 52.5 tons CO2e by air, and 1.5 tons CO2e by sea.

To neutralize the CO2 emitted in our example it will be necessary to buy 53 credits by air and 2 by sea, with an investment of about 5 euros per carbon credit (the cost of carbon credits varies depending on the project you decide to support and from the market listing).

The cost per KG is therefore 0.025 eur / kg by air and 0.0002 eur / kg by sea.

Most of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with daily business activities are created up the supply chain. I firmly believe that we must all hold ourselves accountable for these emissions and therefore redefine carbon neutrality to include the entire supply chain.
